About Unmani

Unmani has blended the best of the bush and the wider world since settling in the Wimmera after moving from her Irish Western District origins. Her life outside the family and farm with John and her two (now) adult children has been filled with a passion for sharing music in it’s many guises – singing, playing and dance.

With a traditional piano AMEB to Grade 7 honours and training in Steiner teaching underpinning her work, she has taught in district schools for thirty years as a primary teacher specializing in drama, dance and music education. Other formal qualifications include a Graduate Diploma in Movement and Dance and her study of the violin as an adult to Grade 6 AMEB.

She has also over the years followed a pathway of inquiry into being more conscious. This has led to working as a Breath Therapy practitioner. She has also studied tantra and hypnosis. She has an enthusiasm for natural birthing practices and undisturbed birth. She continues to be part of the same women’s retreat group over a period of almost 30 years.

In the Wimmera, over around a decade she pioneered bellydance as a beautiful art-form which celebrates women and their bodies, bringing much fun and many giggles to her classes.

Currently beside running a busy studio, she has built, with lots of help from a wider community of family, students and artisans, a beautiful acoustically designed, circular earth studio (super adobe style) to house the grand piano. She enjoys leading a local choir the Decibelles, and is the proud grandmother of six very active boys.
