Singing
Singing is as natural as breathing for Unmani. She feels something in our western world has got in the way, that humming and singing as we go about our day has been deemed ‘weird’ or ‘out of tune’ and lots of other pejoratives that have resulted in a quieter world. Unmani is on a mission to change this! Dancing, playing and singing are ‘sister arts’ she feels, and to be ‘expert’ in one and not embrace the others is an impoverishment.
The birds understand.
Unmani is approached about teaching singing from time to time. Her philosophy begins with...
‘What you do sing already naturally? what are your favourite songs to sing? and what you would like to achieve?’
It might be as simple as feeling confident enough to join a local choir or as focused as the bride who wanted to sing a love song to her new husband at their wedding ceremony. She set herself a goal and we did it together over Skype in about six-weeks (she lives about four-hours away). There were new composed lyrics and it blew him away. A moving moment in the ceremony.
